Lieutenant Colonel Hunter S. Hayes
Lieutenant Colonel Hayes hails from several overseas military installations, moving often as a military dependent.  He attended Kubasaki High School in Okinawa, Japan and graduated from Aledo High School in Aledo, Texas.  He attended The University of North Texas and graduated in May of 2008, accepting his commission as a Second Lieutenant on an Aviation contract and joining the Marine Corps as a third-generation Marine Officer.
 
LtCol Hayes completed The Basic School in December 2009, beginning Introductory Flight Screening in Manassas, Virginia shortly after.  In March 2010, he reported to Marine Aviation Training Support Group 21 (MATSG-21) in Pensacola, Florida.  He led and instructed several courses for Marines awaiting training while waiting in the Student Naval Aviator pipeline, but offered to re-designate as an Aviation Supply Officer.  In December of 2010, he completed the Basic Qualification Course in Newport, Rhode Island, where he earned the 6602 MOS.  
 
LtCol Hayes reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 36 (MALS-36) at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Futenma, Okinawa in February 2011 and assumed responsibilities as the Squadron Support Division Officer in Charge.  In May 2011, LtCol Hayes deployed aboard the USS Essex (LHD-6) with the Command Element of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, assisting with the planning and execution of several bi-lateral, INDOPACOM exercises.  Returning from deployment in December 2011, he assumed responsibilities as the Repairables Management Division Officer in Charge.
 
In May 2013, LtCol Hayes reported to MALS-11 at MCAS Miramar, CA where he served as Adjutant, Assistant Aviation Supply Officer, and Aviation Supply Officer, supporting the F/A-18 A-D Hornet as the Type Model Series Lead.  
 
In October 2016, LtCol Hayes reported to Program Executive Office, Command, Control, Communication, Computers, and Intelligence (PEO/C4I) in San Diego, CA, where he served as the Marine Liaison to Headquarters, Marine Corps Aviation, providing direction and innovative solutions to the implementation and development of the Naval Tactical Command Support System and Optimized-Organizational Maintenance Activity programs in support of Marine Aviation. 
 
In July 2018, LtCol Hayes reported to MALS-39 at MCAS Camp Pendleton, CA, where he served as the Aviation Supply and Operations Officer, providing support to the AH-1Z Viper and UH-1Y Venom Light Attack Helicopters as the Type Model Series Lead.  In May 2019, he deployed to Special Purpose Marine Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Central Command as the Aviation Logistics Planner and Air Cell OIC, providing aviation logistics expertise and support to forward deployed squadrons while overseeing all flight planning and operations.  
 
July 2021, LtCol Hayes reported to Defense Logistics Agency – Aviation as Operations Officer, Marine Customer Facing Division, in Richmond, Virginia.  In addition to his billet, he also supported the Marine Corps’ fleet of KC-130J Hercules as the USMC Weapon System Support Manager. In January 2023, he deployed as DLA’s Liaison Officer to US Army’s V Corps, providing subject matter expertise across all of DLA’s supply classes to support Victory Corps’ deployed units and operations across the European theater.  In March 2024 he assumed duties as the Assistant Division Chief, Marine Customer Facing Division.   
 
In June 2025, LtCol reported to his current billet as Executive Officer, MATSG-23.  LtCol Hayes’ personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star.
